Brunch @ 23 Jumpin

First brunch on the first weekend of 2016 was at 23 Jumpin :) We initially wanted to dine at 23 Jumpin months back but when we passed by there, the cafe was full so we ended up at Carol Mel Cafe

This time round, there's space for us when we were at that area again. We took this chance to dine in there since it's on my bucket list for quite awhile.

The Vespa owned by the owner of the 23 Jumpin spotted right outside the cafe. It was raining so I didn't have a chance to take a #ootd with it though.

The interior of the cafe.

The menu..

If you've noticed, there's the Truffle Infused Creamy Mushroom Pasta which looks pretty tempting but nope, I didn't order that haha.

My Main - Bacon and Honey Baked Ham Pasta  ($12)

Derp's Main - Eggs Benedict ($14)

Instead of the usual truffle fries, we ordered the Honey Paprika Wings ($8) for our sides.

#onthetable

Both our mains were good enough to our liking.

Derp had the Earl Grey tea while I had the Thai Iced Milk Tea. Their signature Honey Paprika Wings was worth the try because it;s yummy and that totally remind us of the Bkk's Grey Hound's Chicken Wings :)

Their waffles ice cream is worth the try too but we were too full hence we gave it a missed. This cafe is definitely worth a goer if you're around that area.

The Last of 2015 - Uncle Leong Seafood, Ang Mo Kio GRC & Sengkang SMCCountdown 2016

This shall be my last post on 2015 and the only event which I have not yet blogged about 2015 will be the wedding. I've lots to write about, just simply procrastinating. But anyway I'll get down to it really soon #hopefully

On the last day of 2015, it was spend mainly on cycling and eating to welcome 2016. Not forgetting we waited for the fireworks too :)

We started cycling around the evening time from Sengkang Riverside Park till Uncle Leong Seafood(Punggol) for our dinner. We didn't start cycling earlier because it was raining heavily till the late afternoon.

I went in advance to rent our bikes around early afternoon and the bike rental owners passed me the keys to the bike locks (Since I don't need it that early). So it's pretty own-time-own-target to collect your bikes and return it. We rented the bike from the bike rental shop at Anchorvale CC (Ground Floor). I can't really remember what's the name of it, but I did sms in to enquire about the bikes before going down to make payment and etc.

Took the compact ones for myself and SIL.

The normal mountain bike for Derp and BIL.

Btw, the bike rental cost per bike was $35 in our case for the usage of close to 7 hours.

We started cycling around 6 plus. And yes I've to get used to cycling again because I almost forgot how to ride a bicycle. Took sometime for me to finally recap and made it to Punggol safely.

A #welfie while on the way there and before the heavy rain start pouring down.

We seeked shelter at Punggol Waterway for quite sometime due to the heavy rain at around 8pm.

In the end, we finally reached Uncle Leong Seafood close to 9pm. There wasn't much queue by then so we didn't wait too long for our seats. To our surprise, it was really crowded at that area that night, with lots of people prawn-ing, playing pool and etc.

Finally here after a long night..

As you can tell, crabs is their signature but nope we didn't order any crab dishes that night as we just had Melben's crab not long ago.

Fried Rice (Can't remember if it's yang chou fried rice anot)

We polished off this dish within 5 mins after it was served because it was too good and we were famished haha! Taste better than the one we had at White Restaurant

Uncle Leong Signature Seafood Hor Fun

Thai Style Chicken

Claypot Toufu (They were really generous with their ingredients)

三黄苋菜 - Chinese Spinach with Eggs

#onthetable

Basically, all their food was really good and affordable. For this amount of food we get, the bill came up to roughly 60 bucks.

And some couple pics..

After the fulfilling dinner, it's time to head back to Sengkang Riverside Park for the fireworks. In the mean time, we went to return our bikes first.

Forgot to mention, there were lots of mishap with the bicycles along the way to and fro Punggol. First, my bicycle's chain came off while I was still getting used to the bicycle. Next, Derp's bicycle's pedal came out which cause us much inconvenience to get the bike back to the rental area.

The screws came off and we had trouble finding it in the dark and while we were doing so, SIL and I got sand flies bites which lasted few weeks and left us scars :( Can't help but to feedback to the bicycle rental place how bad their bikes condition were the very next day.

#welfie while waiting..

The fireworks came from the location same as when the fireworks were set off during the National Day celebration so we roughly know where to stand to get the best view of the fireworks.

Sooner or later, we kept capturing photos which turn out to be smokes/flames only instead of fireworks lol.

Last #welfie of the night to end 2015 and welcome 2016 :)

Glad to be doing something different to welcome this new year and having run so many times to Punggol area, this is the first time we cycled there. Indeed aonther new experience for all of us!

Dinner @ Dazzling Cafe

Chanced upon the Dazzling Cafe's groupon promotion and decide to take this chance to try their food since it's on my bucket list.

I've always find Dazzling Cafe's food overpriced so getting the groupon voucher was a much better option.

However, the groupon voucher expires by 31st Decemeber 2015. As usual we procrastinate much (by right the plan was to use it for our birthdays but we didn't in the end) so we only used the voucher on the last few days of December.

The very long queue

I do thought the queue will be manageable afterall they have opened for quite sometime but I was wrong.

Perhaps there's many people who are like us who leave it till the very last minute to used the voucher hence the queue was exceptionally long that day.

FYI: Dazzling Cafe is a 2 level open concept restaurant.

The tweety bird theme ongoing at that time.

We queued for nearly 1.5 hours before getting our seats. To be honest, there were empty seats in the restaurant but they were severely under staff hence even the simplest task like bringing those in line to their seats also took a very long time.

Totally famished after queueing for so long hence we ordered our food asap once we settled down. The groupon promotion ($49.90) comes with 2 non alcoholic drinks, 1 main and 1 toast. We ordered an additional main to share as we were really hungry!

I thought the ears were quite cute lol

A #welfie taken while waiting for our food. (and that's probably what I meant by there's empty seats around)

Our mains also took quite some time to come so when they comes, we sweep them clean within the next 5-10 mins lol.

Here are the mains we had that night..

Spicy seafood tom yam tomato spaghetti

Scallop and crabmeat spaghetti aglio olio

I do think both were good(or maybe we were just hungry) even though they were very overpriced.

Our non alcoholic drinks came very late as there were problems with their systems hence all the orders weren't received by the kitchen.

I can't really remember what I drank that night but it's probably along the line of iced cappuccino/latte.

Dazzling classic honey toast

We were allowed to choose how toasted we want for the bread to be. We followed the waitress recommendation and got it done in the way "cripsy on the outside, soft on the inside".

After trying it, we find the bread too hard for our liking but we managed to clear almost 90% of it ( I told you we were really hungry).

I personally feel their toast is not worth the money especially if one has tried the toast from BKK's After You Cafe. It taste way much better and most importantly, affordable.

Ending the post with a #ootd taken right outside Dazzling Cafe before we left.

We definitely wont go back there to dine in again as the whole place is overrated and the food is overpriced.

We probably won't step in there at all if not for the groupon voucher hence we get to try their food at a cheaper price. Not forgetting the long queuing time was torturing enough.

Impromptu JB Shopping Trip 2015 - Sushi King and Miyakori Cafe @ CitySquare Mall

Before 2015 ends, Derp and I had an impromptu trip to JB :) Basically to run our errands which is to stock up our daily necessities. The very last time we went to JB was to visit Doraemon Secret Gadget Expo in 2014.

It's been quite some time hence it's time to take advantage of the good exchange rates and head there.

But because we went during the long weekends, the queue at the custom was longer than usual. We queued for nearly 1/2 hour before getting to our destination, City Square Mall @ JB. Not forgetting the public bus to get into JB was also very crowded despite us leaving for JB only around noon time.

Since it was during the Xmas period and also the launch of the Peanuts movie, there was this Xmas decoration which is Peanuts theme in City Square Mall

Though we are not fans of Snoppy and Charlie Brown, but I thought the decoration was quite nice so here are some of the photos taken.

With Charlie Brown

I thought this 'house' was quite nicely made so here's a photo with it.

We started running our errands and once we were done, we went to have our late lunch. This time round, we chose to have lunch @ Sushi King.

#onthetable

These were some of the food we ordered..

They were having promo for their soft shell crab so we ordered that too.

A #welfie taken at the restaurant.

Though the price is affordable, but the variety of their sushis were so-so. There were only a few types going around the conveyor belt hence we kept seeing repeated food. I felt their sushis weren't that authentic especially the rice portion. I will still gladly prefer our local sushi chains like Sushi Express/Itacho Sushi.

After having lunch, we continued shopping around since we were done with our errands. We both managed to buy our own stuffs at a cheaper price even though they can be found locally. #cheapthrills

Just before we left to go back to Singapore, we bumped into this cafe. I was totally excited because I didn't know there's a cafe in City Square Mall. That's definitely something new and different from my previous trips to there. And coincidentally, we were there on their first official opening day :)

We went in to have some desserts and rest our legs before the journey back to Singapore...

To be honest, this cute logo caught our attention first :)

I'm so going to lay my hands on the cake with the 'bear' print on it haha!

Because we weren't hungry or neither full, we ordered a piece of the 'bear' cake to share because it seems to be their signature cake. Too cute to not have it :)

So here's what we ordered..

Kuromitsu Coffee (RM13.90) and Signature Peanut Chocolate Cake (RM 13.90)

Both of us actually like their coffee because it doesn't leave a strong aftertaste. If I'm not wrong, it's actually honey infuse black coffee so it's somewhat sweet and bitter at the same time. I will say it's a very special taste for coffee :)

The cake was pretty average other than the cute design on it. Will definitely try their other cakes (the sakura flavour seems to be a popular choice) the next time I go back there again.
