Pompompurin Cafe @ Orchard Central - Yay or Nay?

Pompompurin Cafe is the first Sanrio cafe to open locally here in Singapore. No doubt many have went overseas and visited a Sanrio cafe, just like a must go place when you are overseas.

And as for me, I've a not-bad experience at Hello Kitty Cafe when I was at BKK last year. Nope, I'm not a Hello Kitty fan but I'm impressed by the #everythinghellokitty set up at the cafe. One can tell how much effort has been put into it to make the cafe a success!

There are way too many new cafes popping up now and then but I must say, a Sanrio Character theme cafe has attracted much attention from the public(especially girls) this time round.

It was a impromptu trip to Pompompurin Cafe just not long after it has opened. We intend to try our luck and even had a backup plan if the queue for Pompompurin Cafe is way too long.

Li Hua (my dinner date), reached there roughly around 6.20pm (on a weekday evening) and started queuing for it. The queue wasn't as long as we thought it will be. I joined her after my work roughly around 6:30pm to continue queuing to get in the cafe.

Pompompurin Cafe spotted!

The queue situation on a weekday evening

We were given the menu while waiting for our seats. So for those who are wondering what's in the menu, here's the full menu :

I do think that pompompurin's friends look cuter than itself haha! Who have the same sentiments as me? :)

The mains

More mains..

The desserts and drinks menu

More beverages..

That's all for the menu and basically it's #everythingpompompurin in the cafe. If you've noticed the menu properly, there isn't much mains/desserts to begin with. There isn't a wide variety of food being served at Pompompurin Cafe.

By around 7pm, we were close to getting into the cafe. So while we were the next in line to get a seat, I took the chance to take more photos again.

We were greeted by this the moment we stepped in to the cafe..

The iconic Pompompurin and friends in the middle of the cafe.

I bet this must be the next #OOTD area for all the ladies visiting it. So once we ordered our food(or maybe not), we went to took photos with the iconic Pompompurin and friends.

A shot taken with Li Hua :)

After we were done taking photos.we returned back to our seats for more photos. And this time round, we have a Pompompurin plushie joining us for our dinner at the cafe.

The table mat on every table.

The interior of the cafe. Actually, the whole area is not big at all.It can't really accommodate that many people in the cafe, probably only 20+ tables in the cafe.

#welfie with the pompompurin plushie which join us to eat that night haha

#selfie with it haha!

Anyway if you are wondering, there is a Pompompurin plushie at every table, and there's this mega huge Pompompurin plushie in the cafe. It should be somewhere in the cafe (probably making it's way round the cafe), you can kindly request from the waitress if you will like to have a pic with the mega huge plushie haha!

We didn't do it because we were quite lazy to request for it haha! But I've seen people doing it :)

Our food arrive pretty quickly but it was the drinks and the desserts and not our mains -_-'.Oh well, perhaps we didn't give clear instructions to them so we didn't probe much and just dig in to the desserts + drinks first.

Cookies and Cream Caramel Latte - $11.99 , Pompompurin's Banana and Caramel Pancake - $16.99

The pancake was served cold. Probably they have prepared quite sometime ago. We guess they probably just add in the banana and caramel sauce when someone ordered it. It tasted so-so, the only plus points was that it's instagram worthy and also quite filling.

Actually, most of the food served by Pompompurin Cafe is very Instagram worthy haha!

Closed up shot of the drink

The drink was the most disappointing item among all the food we've ordered. It doesn't taste at all like cookies and cream but perhaps, it taste just like a creamy milk ice drink. Pretty tasteless I must say, and especially even so after the ice has melted (they should have just omitted the ice).

Li hua can't really take milky stuff well so I'm left alone to finished the drink myself. In the end, I couldn't finish it too because it tasted too blend. I've seen people ordering this drink too from other table and when they left, there's still roughly half left in their cup.

As for our mains, they have forgotten about it and they told us it will take another 20 mins or so to be ready (that was after we prompt to ask the whereabout of our mains). Seems like they cook their food by batches so when it's gone, there's none left. The next batch will take a much longer time to be ready.

Here comes our main after a long wait..

Taco Rice in a Cup of Friendship - $19.99

I rate this the most delish dish among the 3 we ordered. Maybe because it was warm when served to us and the taste was better than expected. We weren't pinning high hopes on it because the previous 2 dish served to us taste pretty normal if not tasteless.

Btw, we didn't eat it 'demurely' haha! After taking enough photos, we 'poured' the whole rice into the plate and mix it well with the sauce and etc. We waited too long for the main to come hence we don't really have the patience to eat it slowly without destroying the Pompompurin's face lol.

Our bill came up to $58 if I didn't remember wrongly. The cost of the food is definitely on the pricey side afterall it's a character theme cafe.

Some last few photos upon leaving the cafe..

This grass/bush is very well crafted in the shape of Pompompurin

We left at around early 8pm. There were still many people queuing up to get in.

It's probably a nay for this cafe because of the food which were not really up to expectation.

However, it's worth it to go at least once (and probably only once will be enough) to enjoy the ambiance and take lots of photos with Pompompurin and friends.

I'm glad we didn't spend a long time queueing (we might have changed dinner location if the queue was way too long) because I don't think it's worth to queue an hour or so just for a seat in the cafe. Perhaps one can visit the cafe after the hype has died down a little, and till then, the food quality and the service might have improved too :)
