23/09/2016 BKK 2016 - Day 1 (Greyhound Cafe, Glow Pratunam Hotel, Holycaps, SombomSeafood @ Siam Square One)

The yearly trip to BKK was not forgotten in 2016. Have been doing so since 2012? Haha!

Our yearly BKK trip in 2016 was something different because the trip was with my BILand SIL. It's sort of a mini family trip this time round :)

Didn't took that much photos as compared to my previous BKK trips because we re-visited quite a number of places that I've blogged about it on my previous BKKtrips. So I will just briefly go through them. You can look them up under "My Travels".

I only took more photos of those places which I've never went before so as to share my experiences here :)

For this trip, we took SQ to BKK. Infact, it's our first time taking SQ to BKK (previously we took budget airline). The air tickets we bought doesn't differ much from budget airline so we chose to fly with SQ. As long you book your trip early, you can get good SQ air ticket deals!

Our flight was around 7am (I can't really remember the exact flight timing) but I only remember we woke up really early to head to the airport.

At the airport waiting for our traveling partners..

We checked in our luggage and get ready for our flight. Checked out our matching passport covers :) Bought it for them during our previous BKK trip.

Before boarding the plane, we actually went up to the foodcourt to have a light breakfast even though there's breakfast served on board lol.

Us waiting to board at the boarding area..

Breakfast served on the flight.

I managed to watch Avengers on the flight though :) Didn't see any new movies that I want to watch so I went to watch old movies.

After landing in BKK, we did the usual routine stuff. Collected our luggage, bought the SIM card and took the cab to the hotel. And as usual, there's a bad jam to the hotel due to a traffic accident on the high way.

We head straight to our hotel, Glow Pratunam Hotel. It's our first time staying there and I must say this hotel is really good. Will definitely go back there the next time I go back BKK :) More about it later on.

But anyway, only 1 rooms was ready for us so we placed all our luggage inside the room first and head out for our first meal in BKK.

Lunch Venue was at Greyhound Cafe. Love this cafe alot since my last trip so we make it a point to bring my BIL and SIL over here. You can read more about it on my previous trip here :)

Their interesting plates.

The starters

We ordered the pretty looking healthy cocktail to share and do actually thought the drinks does looks so pretty. But it's actually the cup color only lol.

Felt so cheated about it and the drinks taste overly sweet for our liking.

Yay to the ever yummy chicken wings :)

Both of us ordered pasta for our mains.

Thai Style Seafood Pasta
Derp has this the previous time too.

My Mains - Spaghetti with Thai Anchovy

I can't finish it in the end because it was way too spicy for me. Will just stick to a non-spicy dish the next time round then haha!

Groove @ CentralWorld

Greyhound Café : Central World, there is connected the sky walk to Chidlom BTS sky train station,
and Greyhound Cafe' is located on 2nd floor, Tel. 662(02)-613-1263, 662(02)-613-1264.

After our lunch, it's time to head to the tailor for the guys. We took a walk from Central World all the way to Amari Watergate

Random looking character in the shopping mall lol.

\
With a Hamburger with legs lol.

Because there's a ongoing Hello Kitty fair at the department store so I decide to take a photo with it haha! But me ain't big fan of Hello Kitty.

Apparently, there's this new bridge which links you all the way from Platinum Mall all the way to Central World. This is like the greatest invention because it means no more of walking along the dusty and crowded road side! Walking on the bridge is 10000x much better and cooling too because of the shelter.

Wide bridge which can accomodate many people.

Platinum Mall is just on the far left.

And it links to Big C too! Yay to convenient groceries shopping.

We arrived at the tailor not long later. We tailor-hop( I don't think there's such a word though) a few tailors and eventually settled at Admire tailor shop to have the customization done.

Into deep discussion the type of material/colors the tailor have..

So after getting done at the tailor, we head back to our hotel. Got the keys to another room and eventually, Derp and I shifted our stuff out from the first room and went into the new room. It's actually just next door la haha!

Was greeted by this brightly lit up room upon entering it.

They combined 2 queen size bed together. So we the bed was really way too big for both of us but damn shiok. There's even 2 blankets. Yay to that because no more snatching of blankets.

The wardrobe which can also be access from the toilet haha. So basically, you can crawl in to the toilet from the bed area.

The shower area.

They provide this really nice good looking and smelling soap which we did use it. Shall use theirs next time and not bring my own one for the next trip!

The view from the room.

Love the full length window in the hotel room. Perfect for viewing scenery/taking ootd too!

We took a short break before heading out again for shopping + dinner. We headed to Platinum Mall to look for Holycaps first. We went all the way there to customized our caps!

The machines that did the embroidery on the caps.

It was mad crowded that day in the shop and we spend a good 1/2 hour to order our caps. Have to choose our font, font color and cap color.  We have the intention to wear it to Chatuchak the very next day haha!

They offer to send the caps to our hotel once it is done since we stay just opposite Platinum Mall :) Very good service I must say. There's many similar shops out there doing customized cap but I highly recommend Holycaps

We made our way to the dinner venue, Sombom Seafood. It's located at Siam Square One. Please beware that there are fake ones out there (we did met with a taxi driver who cheated us to go to the fake sombom) so please keep a look out!

Btw, they do accept online reservation.

However, we didn't made any reservation because by the time we submit the reservation, they told us they were full house and recommend us to walk in instead.

We didn't wait that long for a table as we were there early.

Here's what we ordered...

Seafood Fried Rice

I know it doesn't really look like it haha. But I think the ingredients are all hidden inside if I never remember wrongly.

Signature Chilli Crab

This is the Large one if I didn't remember wrongly and it was good enough for 4 person. But not enough if you want to have a crab feast. I think Derp and I can finish this crab by ourselves haha.

You can see the Seafood of the Seafood Fried Rice in this picture more clearly haha.

We ordered Sambal Morning Glory but in the end, we were being served the normal one. But we are okay about it since we already have a spicy dish.

It didn't cost more than $100 for this meal of 4, probably around 70++80 sgd if I never remember wrongly. Not that pricey but I'll still prefer authentic thai food from Inter Restaurant

After our dinner, we slowly made our way back to the hotel. We did some shopping and passed by those night markets around Siam/Central World/Platinum Mall area before reaching the hotel.

Stopped by Hello Kitty cafe because BIL and SIL have not been there yet. SIL is a big fan of HK so chance for them to take more photos haha!

Derp and I actually went and dine in there on our previous trip, You can read more about it here.

Random Kungfu Panda...

Bought this favourite pork stick back to hotel for supper..

And mango sticky rice too haha!

My loots from Day 1 :)

All of them are from Platinum Mall/Street Stalls outside Platinum Mall and the Tsum Tsum tissue was selling in their 7-11. Much cheaper than the Kleenex tissues sold in Singapore so I brought back some lol.

That's all for now. Will be back to update more about the remaining part of my BKK trip soon :)

Dinner @ City Hot Pot Shabu Shabu

I met up with the girlfriends to celebrate YY's birthday at City HotPot. This place is introduced by Esther as it's near her workplace and she have dined there quite a few times so she decide to intro this hidden gem to us :)

Apparently City HotPot has been around for quite sometime and it is actually my first time hearing them. I will call this restaurant a hidden gem because the food and service was really good and the price is affordable.

I will type more as we go down this blogpost :)

We did make reservation prior to visiting the restaurant because as long you did made reservation, you are entitled to some discounts. I can't remember the exact details but it should be 10% off the total bill. It's indeed a good deal to make reservation prior to visiting. I will totally recommend you to do so if you are heading there for a meal.

We were slightly late and they did call us to double confirm if we are still going there for our dinner. The restaurant was actually full house on a weekday evening.

Some snaps of the menu..

They have set meals for 2 persons and various prices depending on what ingredients you will prefer for your hotpot.

Setmeal for 4 persons

This is the premium 4 persons set meal. There's even lobster meat!

Their servce was really fast because not long later, they brought our soup over first to let it heat up on our individual induction cooker.

Our freshly slices shabu shabu meat (there's beef and pork) with our yummy soup base. I ordered their fish soup (on the left) and tom yum soup on the right.

All the food on the table! Looks so yummy!

The fresh seafood which came later and wasn't capture together with the rest of the food. And if you are wondering, this was also part of the set meal for 4 ;)

With the birthday girl..

Claire looks so happy here with Esther haha..

Birthday girl with her favourite mushrooms.

Love this group picture the most.

The variety, quality and quantity of the food served were really good. I went back there for my own birthday celebration because I simply craved for it after the first experience. Will defintely head back there again on special occassions! It's affordable too as we pay less than $30 each for the amount of food we ate :)

After dinner, we head over to Five Izakaya Bar to continue round 2 of the birthday celebration.

The birthday cake baked by Claire in YY's favourite color.

The somersby drink we ordered to go with the birthday cake.

To be honest, this is the first time I drink alcohol with sweet stuff haha! It doesn't taste that weird/bad afterall.

This pic is nicely taken haha!

So we started to light up the candles and sang a birthday song softly before she made her wishes.

Done with making her birthday wishes and time to blow the candle..

Yet another group pic and taken by the kind staff there.

Even though the cake was not brought from them, but they provide us plates and forks, and also lending us the lighter ot lit up the cake.

Thumbs up for the service provided to us although we only order a bucket of somersby from them.

That's all about it a for YY's birthday celebration with tonnes of good food and alcohol. Oh well, it's been awhile since we done that and I hope there's more of such meetup in time to come because we are way too busy with our personal life these days.So I do cherish meetup like such.

Till the next meetup then :)
